Over the weekend Queenslanders went to the polls, delivering the state its first change in Government in almost a decade, with the LNP securing a majority government on a promise to voters that they would drive change across housing, cost-of-living, health and youth crime.
QFF congratulates the LNP on their election win and welcomes David Crisafulli as Queensland’s 41st Premier.
QFF and our peak body members engaged all parties extensively throughout the year, advocating our positions and key policy actions across priority areas including water, energy, environment, biosecurity, disaster management, land use planning, farm viability and transport and infrastructure.
In the lead up to the election the LNP made several commitments to Queensland’s agriculture sector, including $50 million to enhance biosecurity, a $30 million fund for agricultural innovation and a $12.5 million support package for the Mossman sugarcane industry.
These funding commitments were welcomed by industry, and QFF now look forward to working closely with the incoming government in these areas and others of critical importance for farmers and the Queensland agriculture sector.
The regions have sent a strong message this election. The LNP has already cited the regional experience of its cabinet, including Premier Crisafulli’s agricultural background, as critical to tackling the challenges impacting Queensland’s rural communities and the regions will now be looking to the government to fulfil their commitments.
Engagement with peak bodies and regional communities will be essential to enabling effective responses these challenges. QFF and our peak body members focus in the coming months will be to work with David Crisafulli and the LNP team to ensure Queensland agriculture has a seat at the table and a strong, profitable, and sustainable future.
QFF, our members, agricultural leaders and key stakeholders will be coming together to celebrate what agriculture means to all of us at the National Ag Day breakfast event and look forward to hearing from those Ministers in attendance as to their vision for the future of Queensland farmers.
Tickets sold out in 2023, and a limited number are still available for this year’s event, so be sure to book soon to avoid disappointment by visiting qff.org.au/events/
