Summary

This case studies highlights the energy savings opportunities from audits at a number of pork farms. It highlights potential to reduce lighting energy by 66% and reducing overall energy per site by up to 27% with the addition of Solar PV. Additional benefits include average greenhouse gas emission reductions per site of 931 t CO2-e per year if all recommendations are implemented.

Farm Profile

Energy audits were completed for several piggeries in Southern Queensland where common energy saving opportunities identified included lighting upgrade and solar PV installation. Currently many of the sheds at each site are lit by fluorescent tube or metal halide high bay lighting with lighting accounting for between 1% and 8% of total energy consumption at each site.
