The audit identified several energy efficiency opportunities including regular checks for leaks in the irrigation and compressed air systems and a lighting upgrade.  The audit recommended a 10kW Solar PV system to complement energy efficiency practices already in place, which was implemented by the grower cutting power required from the grid by 34% to save over $4,000 per year with a payback of less than 5 years, and carbon reductions of 14.5 t CO₂-e per annum.

The nursery is located in the Mareeba area with approximately 1.8 hectares of greenhouse plant production, specialising in seedlings, flowers, natives and shrubs. The irrigation system comprises overhead sprinklers and misting sprays serviced by an electric pump. The nursery uses mains supply electricity to drive the irrigation water pump, compressor, robotic transplanter, denesting line, tray filler, potting machine, soil blender, workshop lighting and an air conditioner.
