Walking the Wire – Managing financial preparedness and security for farm business women
Historically, the role of women in Australian agriculture has been under the radar – providing support, advice, labour and alternative income while seldom being recognised as a fundamental part of the sector’s success story.
Yet, according to ABARES data, women comprise 32% of the agri workforce, with the true number being likely higher. They are estimated to provide one third of all on-farm income and a substantial 84% of off-farm income. The reality of the value and depth of women’s contribution to production potential goes further than even these figures recognise.
Walking the Wire e-kit – an important resource delivered by the Queensland Farmers’ Federation and supported by the Queensland Government – aims to provide guidance to help rural women take the next step in securing their financial future, particularly where they may have had difficulty prioritising their own financial security in the past.
