It is widely understood that biosecurity is a shared responsibility for government, industry, farmers and community. Producers play a key role in protecting Australian plant and livestock industries from pests and diseases by implementing sound biosecurity measures on-farm. For farmers, biosecurity is a daily concern. Within the context of developing a farm business resilience plan, ensuring biosecurity risks are identified and a response plan developed is critical to maintaining market access for farm produce and healthy industries.
All Queenslanders have a general biosecurity obligation (GBO) under Queensland’s Biosecurity Act 2014 to ensure they do not spread a pest, disease or a contaminant. The Queensland Biosecurity Strategy 2018-2023 (the Strategy) is a five-year plan to build the framework for Queensland’s future biosecurity system. It was co-developed by the Queensland Government, industry and other partners in the biosecurity system.
