The Queensland Farmers’ Federation’s (QFF) free energy saving program, Energy Southern Queensland (EnergySQ) has recently expanded to the Lockyer Valley and Scenic Rim regional council areas.
The program, which commenced in April 2023 and is free for participating farms, assists growers and producers to identify tangible ways to achieve increased energy efficiencies while lowering emissions on-farm.
The program originally supported the Southern Downs and Goondiwindi regional council areas before expanding to support the Toowoomba and the Western Downs regions in October 2023. These four council areas will continue to be supported by the team, in addition to the two new local government areas.
Producers and growers are invited to participate individually or in a ‘cluster’ and will walk away from the program with an Energy and Carbon Action Plan identifying energy savings for their farming enterprise. Their participation in the project is anticipated to take between two and three months, with ongoing follow-up and support.
As of December 14, 2023, the program had identified more than 500,000 kWh per annum of electricity savings, 40,000 litres per annum of diesel fuel savings, and 614 tCO2e per annum of estimated emissions across 25 farms.
QFF have partnered with ACCIONA Energía Australia to enable this program to be delivered to farms in the designated region at no cost to the producer. ACCIONA Energía are developing the MacIntyre Wind Farm near Warwick.
