- Last week QFF made a submission to the Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning on the Draft Shaping SEQ 2023 Update. - QFF is seeking agriculture and natural resource management organisations in the Great Barrier Reef catchments to host graduate Agriculture Extension Officers. The Agricultural Extension Work Placement Program will cover a portion of the Extension Officer’s salary, as well as training, and travel costs. Learn more and express your interest here. - Australia will cease efforts to eradicate varroa mite and transition to management of the deadly bee parasite, with the National Management Group confirming last week that eradication was no longer feasible based on technical grounds. Read more here.
- A lot has happened since Telstra’s 2019 announcement of the 3G network closure that will take place in June 2024. Telstra have provided QFF an article covering the updates to their 4G coverage while dispelling some common misconceptions regarding mobile signal bars. Read it here.
- The Bureau of Meteorology has formally declared an El Niño weather event, which is linked to hot, dry weather as well as an Indian Ocean Dipole which results in rainfall deficiencies in south-east Australia over spring. Read more here.
- QFF member Cotton Australia have released their 2023-2028 Strategic Plan which lays out their vision of a thriving, trusted, and in-demand Australian cotton industry with a reputation for reliability and quality. Read it here.
- Expressions of interest (EOI) are now open for the AgTech and Logistics Hub’s latest OpenGround innovation initiative aimed at discovering innovations that support the future of sustainable agriculture through plant health. - Would you like to enhance the digital capacity of your agribusiness or enhance your AgTech offering to primary producers? QFF are looking for agribusinesses to host an AgTech Officer as part of a work placement program aimed at boosting Queensland’s agricultural technology industry. - Eligible farmer groups in the Great Barrier Reef Catchment can now apply for funding of up to $20,000 for projects that lead to sustainable farming practices and improved reef water quality. - The Farm Relief Tool connects farmers with Australian Government financial assistance and community support to help prepare for, and recover from drought, natural disaster, or biosecurity events. Learn more about the tool here.
