- The Land Restoration Fund’s Carbon Farming Advice Scheme (CFAS) is opening for a third round of financial assistance on Monday 17 July 2023. Eligible landholders who are keen to investigate the potential for carbon farming and co-benefit generation on their property can access up to $10,000 worth of advice from Approved Advisers through CFAS. - Have your say: The Queensland Government is reviewing the Rural and Regional Adjustment Act 1994 (the Act), which establishes the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA). Provide your thoughts by 28 July on QRIDA’s efficiency, transparency, and public accountability here.
- Two new open data tools are now available for Australian farmers and agribusinesses. The ABARES Farmland Price Index provides the latest estimates for Australian broadacre farmland prices in an easy-to-use dashboard. The CSIRO has launched the Australian National Soil Information System, providing farmers, policy makers and researchers with better access to the data they need to manage, restore and protect Australia’s soils.
- Sugar Research Australia is hosting a free field day at their Bundaberg Station on Thursday, 20 July featuring presentations and conversations with SRA experts and industry partners. Learn more here.
- More cotton crops are popping up in coastal regions, with producers using it as a break crop between sugar cane. Michael Murray, General Manager of QFF member Cotton Australia said the crop could essentially be grown anywhere in Queensland, with growers increasing even in less favourable regions due to the crop’s general profitability. - A long overdue review of Queensland’s drought declaration process will take place as part of the Queensland Government’s drought reforms announced in 2019 and delayed due to COVID-19. The announcement comes after news this past month that less than 10 per cent of Queensland is currently officially in drought. Read more here.
- Skills Insight is the recently established Agribusiness Jobs and Skills Council (JSC), formerly Skills Impact. They are seeking members interested in finding solutions to national skills and training challenges. Membership is free and involves as much time as you are able to commit.
