- The Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF) has a new job opening for an Energy Policy/Project Officer. The role will assist QFF in progressing the policy and regulatory reforms required to build a strong and resilient future for Queensland agriculture and will be involved in an exciting on-farm energy savings program. - After decades of Queensland Sugar Limited (QSL) operating Queensland’s bulk sugar terminals on behalf of the cane industry, terminal owner Sugar Terminals Limited (STL) has announced that it will stop current arrangements with QSL and run the terminals itself. Growers are encouraged to express their concerns by contacting the STL board here.
- QFF are on the road this week visiting the Southern Downs and Goondiwindi regions to launch our new on-farm energy efficiency program. The Energy Southern Queensland (EnergySQ) program will help growers and producers in the Southern Downs and Goondiwindi regional council areas identify on-farm energy savings and ways to lower their carbon emissions. - A staple in most Australian homes (91 per cent in fact), the humble carrot, was celebrated last week at an Easter themed celebration in Brisbane’s CBD. Queensland Fruit and Vegetable Growers (formerly Growcom) were at it again celebrating the 100+ fruit, vegetable, and nut varieties grown in Queensland as part of their Year of Horticulture celebrations. - QFF’s Localised Energy in Regions project is currently surveying agricultural producers, regional businesses, and regional councils across Queensland to determine the current and emerging appetite for distributed energy resources including microgrids, Virtual Power Plants, and Community Batteries. - Skills Insight, a new Jobs and Skills Council (JSC) from Skills Impact, has been established to provide leadership in addressing national skills and training needs across a range of industries including those within the agribusiness supply chain. The Council will focus on primary production, plants and animals, forestry and timber, as well as emerging industries around natural resource security and environmental management. Learn more here.
- The Biogas from agricultural waste – A techno-economic evaluation report has recently been released by Race for 2030, in partnership with research and industry organisations, including QFF. The report examines the feasibility of biogas production using inputs from the agricultural sector including chicken manure and sugar mill wastes.
