- The federal government has released the National Better Practice Guide supporting Farm Debt Mediation (FDM). The banking Royal Commission recommended that a national scheme of FDM be enacted. Currently NSW, Victoria, SA and QLD have legislated FDM schemes in place. Take a look at the national guide HERE.
- QFF have raised concerns regarding the federal government’s Secure Jobs, Better Pay Bill and called for genuine employer engagement in the roll out of these complex new Industrial Relation laws. Read more HERE.
- The 2022 Reef Champion Award finalists were celebrated at a gala dinner held in Cairns last week. The awards program shines a light on farming, extension, traditional owners and community leaders who are innovating and working to build a sustainable future for the catchment and the Great Barrier Reef. - The $20 million Round 5 of Made in Queensland opened for applications on 31 October 2022. Applications close at 9.00am on 12 December 2022. Access the application form here. Queensland-based manufacturers looking to adopt the processes, practices and equipment of Industry 4.0 implementing projects that include energy efficiency, export, reshoring, supply chain improvements, sustainability and/or decarbonisation are encouraged to apply.
- The Pest Identification Tool, brought to you by QFF members, the Nursery & Garden Industry Queensland is provided to assist the horticultural industries in identifying and treating pest insects, diseases, disorders and weeds. - The Darling Downs based Agtech and Logistics Hub has partnered with the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) to drive innovation in the grains sector through its GroundUp Program. Listen to GRDC’s ‘in conversation’ podcast HERE.
- The Australian cotton industry produces a sustainable, natural fibre, leading the world in water efficiency and environmental advancements. Since 1992, water use productivity by Australian cotton growers has improved by 48%. QFF members Cotton Australia have produced an informative pocket guide to Australian cotton. Check it out HERE.
- Minister for State Development, Steven Miles, convened a roundtable bringing together key industry players to launch a pathway for Queensland to capitalise on the global shift to green jet fuels. The world’s airlines have set a target of net zero emissions by 2050 with sustainable aviation fuels needed in large quantities to achieve this. QFF members Canegrowers are advocating this as a very real opportunity for the Queensland sugar industry. Deputy Premier Miles believes this opportunity could see Queensland producing and distributing green fuels for flights across domestic and international markets in the future. Read more HERE.

- IPaM is a joint initiative delivered by WHSQ and WorkCover Queensland. It is a free program designed to help Queensland businesses develop and implement sustainable health, safety and injury management systems.
