- QFF is recruiting for an Industry Recovery and Resilience Officer (IRRO) to deliver operational activities to primary producers impacted by the 2021 and 2022 Queensland flood events, to assist them with recovery actions and to build resilience to future flood events. The role will ensure smooth and satisfactory delivery of the project outputs, manage activities within a defined budget and work collaboratively with fellow IRROs, delivery partners and key stakeholders. - Healthy Land & Water has delivered the results of its annual monitoring program of the health of the region’s waterways. It will come as no surprise to most that grades are down across the board, following the disaster-scale floods which hit the region earlier this year. - The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries is seeking community feedback on how livestock brands and earmarks will be managed in the future. The pork industry has raised concerns that pig branding is part of the NLIS system and essential for traceability. You can find all the consultation documents and provide your feedback via the department’s engagement hub HERE. The consultation will close 5pm, Sunday 15 January 2023.
- QFF provided a detailed submission to provide comment and input into the Water Legislation Amendment Bill 2022 currently under consideration. QFF supports an affordable, efficient, and cost-effective water metering, management and compliance framework. See QFF’s submission HERE.
- In a world first, a shipment of fully traceable, sustainably produced raw sugar was loaded for export at the Port of Townsville last week. The sugar produced from cane grown by Smartcane BMP accredited growers will be traceable through the supply chain to the end user in South Korea. - Pineapple growers are facing a significant challenge brought about the May wet weather event which is predicted to result in a 60%-90% crop loss for nearly half of the pineapple supply chain. QFF members Growcom are working with industry to understand and address the issue as outlined HERE.
- A survey commissioned by the NFF revealed that only 18% of Australians agree that the sector is focused on innovation and improvement. QFF took the opportunity to showcase the innovation and sustainability journeys of some of our members at a breakfast event to celebrate National Ag Day last week.
