- Cotton Australia report that Australian cotton growers appear certain to sell out of 2022 cotton within weeks and are positioned well for the 2023 crop despite global volatility. With a crop of around 5.5 million bales produced in Australia this year, the 2022 cotton crop is the biggest on record. - The next round of the strengthened Reef protection regulations is due to commence on 1 December 2022 and includes minimum practice agricultural standards for Sugarcane, Grazing and Bananas. The Office of the Great Barrier Reef is offering online information sessions in mid-November for producers, to help them understand the requirements and what they need to do to comply, register HERE.
- UQ students undertake an industry placement as a capstone course for their degree, with students in food science and technology, agriculture and engineering, who are able to undertake a placement in those areas from a few weeks to a full semester. UQ is able to be flexible with how it conducts placements, and they are looking at understanding the different ways that industry feels are manageable for engagement with students. - Norco, the biggest employer in Lismore, was flooded earlier this year like many other businesses in the region. 7 months later and their head office is getting closer to completion, but the ice cream factory has been cleaned up and left dormant.
