- QFF welcomed the opportunity to provide comment on the Department of Environment and Science’s discussion paper for an Independent Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). - The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has announced the establishment of Biosecurity Response Zones at international airports across Australia. These zones support the government’s strengthened response measures at the border to mitigate the risk of Foot and Mouth Disease and other threats entering and establishing. Read more HERE.
- On 1 July, the ACCC commenced a Regional Mobile Infrastructure Inquiry and released a consultation paper seeking submissions particularly from those likely to use regional mobile infrastructure such as farming businesses based in regional and rural areas. Submissions are due on 5 August and the consultation paper is available HERE.
- Do you know somebody making an outstanding contribution to the agriculture, fisheries, or forestry sectors? Nominate them for the Peter Kenny Medal and Minister’s Emerging Leader Award which celebrates the passionate innovators and key influencers in our sectors. Nominations close 2 September. - The National Farmers’ Federation, in collaboration with DAFF and industry, is expertly leading the monitoring of biosecurity issues at the national level, particularly of the Foot and Mouth Disease detection in Indonesia. The NFF website is a wealth of up-to-date information and resources for current and ongoing issues. Visit HERE.
- Long Paddock’s rainfall poster maps have been updated. The maps show data from April 2021 to March 2022 in comparison to each year as far back as 1890. Check out the new posters for rainfall, tropical cyclone, pasture growth, and wet and dry periods. These resources are delivered by the Queensland Government’s Drought and Climate Adaptation Program. - The Bureau of Meteorology has developed new extreme climate and weather outlook tools and graphs with more detail on unseasonal rainfall and temperatures. There is a new ‘Chance of 3-day totals’ map, and more information for any location. These could assist in managing your farm business. Find the tools HERE.
- Registrations are now open for Farmsafe Australia’s ‘Farmsafe Conference 2022: Recipe for Averting Disaster’ which will take place on 14 and 15 September in Canberra. Register HERE. Farmsafe have also announced the development of a cookbook titled: Recipe for Averting Disaster. The cookbook is being developed as an avenue for real Aussie farmers to share their produce, family traditions and safe practices; all with the purpose to build awareness around farm safe protocols.
