- QFF Project Manager Kerry Battersby, along with Dr Shahbaz Mushtaq and Dr Jarrod Kath from the University of Southern Queensland have been chosen to present on a joint project to produce enhanced agricultural crop insurance systems at the online Australian Disaster Resilience Conference from 24-27 August 2020. - The Australian Government recently announced $100 million will be available annually for drought resilience projects with programs starting to roll out from July 2020, supporting farmers and communities to become more prepared for, and resilient to, the impacts of drought. Details HERE.
- Grants of up to $20,000 are now available for small businesses to improve their energy efficiency through the Energy Efficient Communities Program. Grants may be used for equipment and component improvements, energy audits, feasibility studies and/or energy use and emission monitoring. For more information and to apply, click HERE.
- Nominations for the 2020 Queensland Agriculture Awards are now open. There are two awards—the Peter Kenny Medal and the Minister’s Emerging Leader Award—each with $3,000 up for grabs. Nominations close 20 July 2020. Details HERE.
- The exotic pest fall armyworm has been detected in Longreach. Be alert but not alarmed. If you think you’ve seen fall armyworm, take some photos and call Biosecurity Queensland on 13 25 23 or speak to your local biosecurity or extension officer. - TAFE Queensland has designed a range of short courses to enable local farmers and residents in areas affected by drought to upskill, engage with local community and increase opportunities for off-farm income.
